Some people have such low electrical needs that they can't really justify the expense of an entire solar power system, nor do they want to face the large learning curve it requires. All they need is to keep their phones, tablets, cameras and a few other devices running--is there any easy and cheap way to help them? YES!!!! In today's video my friend Robert Witham and I are taking a look at small, folding solar panels that charge with a USB outlet. That allows you to directly charge your phone, tablet, camera, etc, off it. But a much better idea is to charge a small USB battery bank off of the solar panels and the devices off of it. Once they are finished charging, the battery bank will finish charging and that allows you to recharge your tablet or phone overnight if you run it down watching Youtube or the internet on them after dark. Or, if you have several days of clouds, the battery banks become your buffer to get you through.
We also tested a USB powered fan, LED lights and AA and AAA battery chargers. We found they all worked very well and would make charging them all very easy off of your folding solar panels and battery banks. It's easy to think of them as impractical toys, but they all worked very well and would make your vandwelling life much better and easier!
If you have minimal power needs, this could be a valid option for you!
